Local Deaf Footballer (Danny Rea) wins bronze medal at European Championships

Danny Rea, a local 20 year-old deaf player was part of the Great Britain Deaf Football team which secured 3rd place at the 8th staging of the European Deaf Football Championships in Hanover (Germany) last month. Great Britain recorded victories over Russia, Denmark, Czech Republic and Sweden en route to the semi-finals before an unlucky defeat to eventual champions Turkey. Great Britain secured Bronze by defeating Ukraine in the 3rd/4th place play-off match. Danny enjoyed the experience immensely. He is grateful for the support from his managers, coaches, team-mates and those who helped him with funding for the event. Latest Deaf Golf Report

UDGS (Ulster Deaf Golf Society) Par 3 Competition, Temple Course at Blackwood Golf Centre, Bangor On Sunday 14th June 2015, a group of deaf golfers played on a challenging parkland Par 3 golf course. The group took advantage of the good weather on the day which made the course conditions more enjoyable to play on. There were good scores from several individuals however there could be one winner! Damien Moore from Lurgan won the Par 3 competition.   UDGS (Ulster Deaf Golf Society) v IDGU (Irish Deaf Golf Union) 1st Shield Competition at Banbridge Golf Club, Banbridge – Sunday 5th July 2015 History took place for the first time when a Ulster Deaf golf team took on a ‘Rest of Ireland’ Deaf golf team for the very first time. Each team consisted of thirteen players and to be part of the winning team, each team had to combine the lowest net scores from six players out of a possible thirteen players. The completion was played on a stroke-play format. The golf course was in excellent condition however the greens were slow due to moist and the unpredictable weather. The weather during the course of play was a nuisance with the players having to play in the heavy rain at times while at other times, the sun came out, making the conditions humid. The Ulster team was bolstered with the recruitment of an international player, Gregory McCaughey who has represented Ireland in Deaf World Golf competitions. Experienced and low handicapped players, Damien Moore and Nigel Dallas were part of the Ulster team who were determined to show Ulster are a...
