Bowls (both outdoor and indoor short-mat) is a popular sport within the Northern Ireland Deaf community with around 100 regular participants.
There are opportunities to learn how to play bowls even if you have never played before or want to learn to improve – free coaching can be provided by top International Deaf players such as Paul Canning, Robin Beattie, Christina Walls and Heather Kelly who are also qualified coaches.
There are opportunities to play deaf bowls competions weekly and to represent Northern Ireland at International Level for elite players. 2015 was a big year for bowls with Northern Ireland hosting the 2015 International Deaf Bowls Championships in August/September, consisting of more than 100 top Deaf players from as far afield as Australia and New Zealand.
